Home made instruments and props mix with natural resources, to enhance our experience of music.
Growing Music takes pre-school children on a weekly adventure through genres, cultures, and elements of music and movement to grow confidence, connections and joy.
The Growing Music program was founded by Kylie Mahoney (BEd), aka Music Kylie, in 1997, through her experience in early childhood education and care, and her recognition of the need for child-centred music programs that highlight cultural diversity and positive growth. Growing Music is continually shaped in consultation with other early childhood professionals and the children who participate in these classes. Growing Music’s specialty is to provide access to all children using unique engagement and intuitive transition strategies to help them grow through this adventure. Classes can be tailored to pre-school children of all levels of ability and differing approaches to learning.

Growing Music classes are all about inclusiveness and joy. Children and carers are given opportunities to input throughout the classes to encourage confidence in their own creativity and to grow an understanding of music’s ability to uplift, heal and connect us all. The sessions involve grass roots, hands on experiences through a series of instrumental and movement activities allowing the children to explore in their own time and way. Kylie herself has been schooled by a 3 year old, in the best conch shell blowing practices!
Growing Music classes foster confidence and strong learning habits for children to develop a connection to music and movement and the joy it provides. Growing Music classes nurture self expression in a safe and inclusive environment. Our littlest citizens are given a space to imagine and time to develop a voice of their own through the discovery of sounds, dance, various instruments and the movement and textures of complementary objects.
Anyone who has grown a garden knows that different plants require different conditions to thrive - just like us human beans!!

A stroll further into our growing arts garden is after school Art classes. With a Bachelor of education in Arts and Crafts, and 7 years teaching Art in Community certres under her belt, Kylie Mahoney provides a safe and inclusive environment for primary children to explore the adaptive, environmentally friendly program with a focus on growing confidence, well being and creativity through learning new skills, crafts and tecniques in a multi aged group. Children are invited to incorporate their own areas of interest into the activities, to grow the program in a way that includes them. They are challenged to try new ways of bringing their ideas to life, and alternate views of the fabulous inner and outer worlds we inhabit together . . .

In our Art space children are encouraged to examine their connection to Art and the natural world, and explore these worlds with openess, kindness and respect. Art is veiwed as process, rather than outcome, and wherevever possible activities are adapted to accomodate each childs pace, skill set and learning style, to grow creative thinking in all areas of learning . . .
Growing music & art gratefully acknowledges that we are living and creating on Wurundjeri country and pays respect to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung custodians and elders, past present and emerging.
I am the mother of two amazing humans, and I have practiced and taught in the arts throughout my life. I am currently studying a Masters in Therapeutic Arts at MIECAT institute, in order to keep growing knowledge and skills. I truly believe in fostering an individual's strengths to overcome limitations, or the life challenges we may encounter, and I encourage healing through the Arts, where words alone may be inadequate. I never want to imagine a world without creative thinking, safe spaces, and vibrant learning - a vital and much loved Arts garden for anyone to grow in . . .
